Rose Tinted Glasses (oil on board 2017)
This piece is based on a memory of a past affair. On the mug is inscribed, “Friday 13th ,” the date on which they met. The mug was made and given by the artist to him to mark their meeting on that fateful day in London.
When in love the view of the world is coloured by consuming passion. It colours everything out of perspective, as if looking through rose tinted glasses. We can-not see flaws or hear alarm bells ringing despite outside advice. We know it will end badly and we plough ahead regardless, ruled by our hearts, charmed by their charisma.
This mug represents him and when they met beneath The Eye. The rose tinted glasses represent her unrealistic perspective of him. An ordinary mug can look like priceless fine bone china through tainted eyes that have been charmed by illusion. Little by little we can loose our self, we are no longer in control until the spell is finally broken along with our heart.
